Neuroscience, also known as the Neural or Mother of Science, is the study of how the nervous system develops, its structure, and what it does. Come explore it with me!

Hi!

I wanted to start off my blog with perhaps the most basic question one can have regarding my area of interest.

But just before I begin, I wanted to share a fun fact about the same!

Did you know a neuroscientist is able to read a rat’s actual imagination? Pretty cool, right?

This area of study essentially deals with the most complex organ of the human body: the brain. This organ is said to be one of the greatest mysteries of our time and chances are, we’ll never really know how it works!

Currently, this field is becoming extremely popular for undergraduate studies, and is showing the most growth in its research areas. Its primary focus is on understanding how our brain, human cognition, and nervous system works.

Our brain is said to have over 100 billion neurons (nerve cells), which is more than twice the number of stars in our galaxy, and could be wrapped around the Earth twice over!

With the help of Neuroscience, we not only understand the interactions between neurons, genes, and proteins, but it also helps us answer perhaps the biggest questions one can have about themselves: the root of their decision making, personality, and addiction. It can also potentially change our society, or change the way we think about ourselves and our surroundings.

In my next blog, I’ll be talking about sleep cycles and how it’s related to our brain. Stay tuned!
